Cavaliers to submit proposal to bring All-Star Game to Cleveland in 2016 or 2017
NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver visited Cleveland to explore the feasibility of bringing the All-Star Game back to the city and encouraged the Cavs to bid on a future game. The All-Star Game was last in Cleveland in 1997, when the league assembled the 50 greatest players of all time. “We had a great experience when we were there in ’97,” Silver said. “We would love to return to Cleveland.”

Carmelo may sit out All-Star Game
Carmelo Anthony said a "deep" right arm contusion he suffered on Wednesday night may sideline him for Sunday's NBA All-Star Game. Ranking the West’s preferred All-Star injury replacements
Inevitably, some worthy All-Star will be ruled out due to injury, thereby opening up a spot on either conference’s roster for a substitute. In the case of the West, it’s looking increasingly likely that Tim Duncan might sit out the weekend due to soreness in his knee, while a few others (Dwight Howard, Chris Paul) are conceivable scratches given their nagging injuries.

Dwight Howard wants to play
Dwight Howard said he intends to play in this weekend's NBA All-Star Game as long as he doesn't aggravate the torn labrum in his right shoulder during the Los Angeles Lakers' final two games before the break. "Hopefully I'll be able to play. If I were to re-aggravate my shoulder in these next two games, I'd probably just play a couple minutes (in the All-Star Game) and sit the rest of it out."

Spoelstra's All-Star starter: Bosh or Irving?
All signs point to Spoelstra selecting his own player, Chris Bosh, to start alongside Dwyane Wade and LeBron James, who were voted in as starters. But choosing Bosh, who plays center, over first-time All-Star Kyrie Irving, who is having an impressive season for the Cleveland Cavaliers and plays the same point-guard position as Rondo, is going to cause an interesting debate.

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will coach the Western Conference All-Stars for the third time in his career. Popovich earned the spot after San Antonio beat Charlotte 102-78, ensuring the Spurs (37-11, .771) will have the best record in the West through games played Sunday. 4 Ways to Increase the Popularity of NBA All-Star Weekend
In an era when television ratings are a premium source of income for sports, all-star games are failing to draw Americans to their living rooms. Eventually, rather than make some minor adjustments to the product, one league needs to make a bold move and make a few major changes to the entire all-star weekend.

NBA All-Star Roster 2013: Biggest Snubs and Surprises
As always, some inclusions and some exclusions have created some buzz among NBA fans and experts. It's impossible for the fans and coaches to make everybody happy; otherwise, each All-Star team would have 40 players. All in all, both rosters are pretty solid and without too many issues. Thank goodness the league was spared from having Jeremy Lin earn a starting spot.

The Case for Brook Lopez as an NBA Eastern Conference All-Star
He's no Tim Duncan, but Brook Lopez has become the new "Big Fundamental." As players such as Dwight Howard and Blake Griffin enter fans hearts via their ability to achieve the athletically extraordinary, Lopez has gone under the radar.  Lopez has overcome a lack of quickness by defeating opponent with his polished fundamentals. Lopez is as dominant a low-post scorer as you'll find in the NBA today.

The "No Chance" All-Stars
The task was to come up with All-Star reserves based on the same criteria as the league (two guards, three frontcourt players, two wild-cards), but with one huge caveat - they won't seriously be discussed as All-Stars. This isn't to say they deserve spots over the starters or the reserves, but these players have enjoyed good-to-great 2012-13 NBA campaigns.

Potential NBA All-Star Reserves on the Bubble

Do reserves Jamal Crawford and J.R. Smith deserve selection to NBA all-star team?
Kobe Bryant was elected to his first all-star game in 1998, when he didn’t start for the Los Angeles Lakers. Since then, no bench player has been elected by the fans or selected by the coaches to participate in the NBA’s annual celebration of the game’s best. But this season, Jamal Crawford of the Los Angeles Clippers and J.R. Smith of the New York Knicks have long-shot chances of ending the streak and becoming all-star reserves while primarily serving as reserves for their respective teams.

2013 NBA All-Star Game: Picking the reserves
Picking NBA All-Star Game reserves often isn't an easy task -- there are a ridiculous amount of deserving players with seemingly cast-iron cases, and everyone has a different value system in judging those players. Luckily, the fan voters did a solid job in choosing starters in 2013. There are no egregious names among the starters, so there are few reserve slots that need to be dedicated as make-up spaces.

It's time to take a hard look at our 10 All-Star Game starters. Keep in mind that you don't have to stick to traditional positions; the requirement is for two backcourt players and three frontcourt players. The idea is to get the five best players in each conference into the lineup.

Damian Lillard aims to become first rookie guard since Michael Jordan to make NBA All-Star team
Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose didn't make the NBA All-Star Game as rookies. Kyrie Irving made a valiant effort last season, but also didn't get picked. No guard, in fact, has been selected to play in the annual All-Star Game since Michael Jordan 28 years ago. Damian Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazers' rookie point guard, would like to end that streak.

Perennial NBA All-Stars Likely To Miss the Cut This Year
As we draw nearer to the 2013 NBA All-Star Game, it has become clear that a handful of perennial participants aren't going to make the cut. Some aren't even viable candidates. Though certain "snubs" can be attributed to injuries, plenty are the result of diminished performance. Others are likely to fall short in favor of some fresh faces as well.

Is David Lee the best power forward in the league?
So if you still haven’t been convinced DLee is an all star, what better test than to match him up against Blake Griffin- the Clipper’s flashy all star starter. In 2012-2013, Lee tops Griffin in most statistical categories: points, rebounds, FG%, FT%, and assists. (Griffin wins in steals and blocks) But what may be surprising is Lee is either first or second in points, rebounds, assists, FG% and FT% for the PF position.

All-Star Linsanity Swallows Harden
In his first season as a starter and in the role of lead horse pulling the wagon, James Harden could expect to be chasing the marquee names of Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul for a starting berth on the Western Conference team in the 2013 NBA All-Star Game. But who thinks the league’s fourth-leading scorer should be trailing his Houston teammate Jeremy Lin by more than 200,000 votes? Those casting ballots, of course.

Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson believes both Stephen Curry and David Lee should be NBA all-stars when teams are named in the New Year. Jackson said both stars should be on the Western Conference roster when coaches vote on the bench players. "This team is not about chasing individual accolades but that being said it's my job as coach to make the case for these two players to be recognised and every time I've got a microphone in front of me that is what I'm going to don".

NBA to Introduce All-Star Saturday Night Champion at 2013 All-Star Weekend
The NBA announced a few tweaks to the format of its All-Star Saturday Night Contests, connecting the events by way of a competition between the Eastern and Western Conferences and adding “captains” to oversee the spectacle. In years past, the four events were totally independent. Beginning at this year’s 2013 All-Star Weekend in Houston, the East and West will receive points based on the results of each of the four events, with the overall winning conference earning extra money to donate to charity.

Who Will Be First-Time All-Stars?
At this point, over a quarter of the way through the season and after the first round of All-Star balloting was released to the general public, we’ve gotten a pretty good sense of which players have the best shot at making their first All-Star game this year. It’s still a little too early to determine which of the following players will actually make the team, but it’s very likely that all of the first-time All-Stars are among those listed below.

Major Candidates to Be First-Time NBA All-Stars at the Quarter-Season Mark
Few matters in the NBA generate more debate than All-Star selections. Many fans lament the popularity contest that the game has always represented, while the traditional position criteria has limited the chances for many legitimate All-Star contenders.

Zach Randolph back performing like an All-Star
Among the reasons for Randolph’s renewed sense of tenacity is that after last year’s condensed, lockout-shortened campaign in which he tore his MCL the first week of the season at Chicago, he spent the bulk of the offseason conditioning and concentrating on reducing his weight. Before the Grizzlies’ morning shoot around session Tuesday, Randolph enjoyed what he described as an intense weight-lifting workout that was comprised of doing a number of squats as well as strengthening his upper body.

Anderson Varejao Deserves To Make The NBA All-Star Game
In basketball, not everybody can be an elite player garnering accolades, fortune and fan adoration. No, some guys… actually most guys are role players largely going under the radar. Some are even more so cleverly defined as specialists. For the better part of his career, Anderson Varejao has been known as a specialist in the rebounding category, and a pretty good one at that...

Jrue Holiday Wants ‘Serious Consideration’ for the All-Star Team
Jrue Holiday is in the midst of a breakout season (18.6 points and 9.2 assists per game), and is quite understandably hoping for an invite to the midseason showcase. ‘Man, I hope (I deserve serious consideration),’ Holiday said. ‘I don’t really look at the statistics of me and the other guards. I really just try to go out there and play.’”

Duncan still fits All-Star profile
Still astounded to see Tim Duncan’s run of 13 consecutive All-Star appearances end last February, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich already has begun stumping for his star big man three months ahead of this season’s game in Houston. Step one of the campaign appears to be to remind voters — and fellow coaches who select reserves — of last season’s snub. “I thought he played well enough in the West to be on the All-Star team,” Popovich said. “I thought that was a big mistake, and I thought a lack of respect for how well he played last year. He’s done the same thing this year.”

NBA Players Making Strong Bids To Be First-Time All-Stars
What do Jeremy Lin and James Harden have in common? They will both be NBA All-Stars for the first time in 2013.The global sensation and the Sixth Man of the Year are veritable shoo-ins at this point in the season. What’s more, in one of those typical sports coincidences, both will be holding it down on their new home court. They’re not the only ones who will be making their All-Star Game debut. Ten players who should have been on the 2013 NBA All-Star ballot
Everyone agrees that this process is all about hype, not “need,” and there’s something to be said for the “I’m just happy to be nominated” sentiment that comes with inclusion on a ballot. 6 Would-Be NBA All-Stars Being Wasted on Horrible Teams
Some players that are "All-Stars" aren't as good as players that aren't "All-Stars." They earn the moniker for no better reason other than they happen to have better teammates. There is a short list of players in the NBA who, if they were playing for a better team, would be no-brainers. Yet because they are toiling with losing teams, they are overlooked.

NBA to change All-Star ballot, eliminating center
61 editions later the NBA has changed how the All-Star lineups are selected. Historically, three positions were clearly defined: Guards (G), Forwards (F) and Center (C). In this years ballot, Center position disappears and fans have to pick 2 guards (backcourt) and 3 forwards (frontcourt) per team.

Tackling the early NBA All-Star questions
Every new season brings its own revised hierarchy. Player development, regression, injury and movement scramble what was previously thought to be an established order, and in the process create all kinds of opportunities for players and teams to take on new roles in the altered NBA landscape.

The 50 Greatest Players to Never Make an All-Star Team, Part I
I am going to start out with short details on five guards who never made an All-Star team.  One even led the league in assists, while another averaged over 21 points per game as part of a championship squad and was left off the AS team. Work horses, former Rookie of the Year talent, Sixth men awards…these five have accolades.  Just none of them feature an All-Star appearance…

NBA All-Star Game generates $95M in economic impact Orange County
For the purpose of the study, "economic impact" is generated only when "new" money is injected into the local economy. The study concluded that direct spending outside of events totaled approximately $56.3 million and indirect spending generated $38.8 million, giving a total economic impact of more than $95 million. Direct spending represents dollars spent within Orange County related to events that otherwise would be spent outside the county's economy.

Orlando Magic are interested in hosting the 2016 NBA All-Star Game
Orlando Magic Chief Executive Officer Alex Martins said the franchise will bid to host the 2016 NBA All-Star Game at Amway Center if, as expected, city and county government officials support bringing the exhibition back to Central Florida for the second time in four years. The odds would seem to be low for any city to host the game twice in five seasons, but the league does not have a rule that would prohibit a city from doing that.

Anthony Morrow will wear Drazen Petrovic jersey to honor former Net during NBA All-Star break
Petrovic was a Net for two-plus years, from midway through the 1990-91 season until 1993 averaging more than 20 points-per-game in each, and left a large impression on the franchise. He died in a car crash at 28 years old that summer. His No. 3 jersey is one of five retired by the organization. Morrow has had the idea since he saw Petrovic's jersey hanging in the Nets' practice facility. After seeing the documentary, "Once Brothers" -- about the broken friendship between Petrovic and Vlade Divac -- he thought that if he had the chance to participate in All-Star weekend, he would honor the fallen hero.

Expect NBA to add Jeremy Lin to All-Star roster
NBA commissioner David Stern is not averse to taking advantage of a moment that might never come again. He realizes Lin should be in Orlando. Nobody in the league is hotter. No player in recent years has commanded such intense, unrelenting attention. Stern is bullish on the league he has lorded over for nearly 30 years, so I'd be disappointed if he doesn't find a way to put Lin in uniform. The Stern I've come to expect, who understands the value of a name worthy of a marquee, is working on that task at this very minute.

John Wall on being 12th pick for Rising Star Challenge: “It’s a joke to me”
John Wall has had to get accustomed to losing in Washington, and this week, the 2010 No. 1 overall pick had to deal with what felt like a rejection. TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal chose teams for the Rising Star Challenge from a pool of 20 rookies and second-year players and Wall was selected 12th overall.  “It’s a joke to me,” said Wall, who is averaging 16.9 points and 7.5 assists in his second season. “If they think there are 11 guys better than me, then that’s their decision. But I know what I think in my mind and all I can do is go out there and play basketball the way I know how to play.”

NBA All-Star Snubs? The Voters Just Might Have Gotten It Right
One look at the Eastern and Western rosters reveals that the voters -- first the fans, who elected starters, then NBA head coaches, who voted on subs -- mostly got things right. There's not one player on either team who objectively does not deserve to be an All-Star. The problem with All-Star balloting every year is that there are more players worthy of All-Star attention than there are slots.

Slam Dunk Contest Fan Poll

Kyrie Irving: NBA All-Star?
Irving has had an incredible year and he’s putting up impressive numbers in limited playing time, at least compared to other All-Star candidates. He’s the only player among the top 35 scorers in the league who’s averaging less than 30 minutes a game, and yet there he is nipping at the heels of Danny Granger and Rudy Gay, but it’s relatively rare to have a rookie named to the All-Star game.

Overlooked All-Stars
The All-Stars are coming. Who’s the most underrated, no chance at going to Orlando but should have a shot, player in the league today?

Do the Thunder have 3 All-Stars on their Roster this year?
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are Oklahoma City’s two best players. They made All-Star teams and All-NBA teams last year. But the Thunder’s James Harden is emerging this season as a possible third All-Star on the roster. Harden is averaging 16.8 points per game, 3.3 assists per game and 4.1 rebounds per game this season. He’s shooting 48 percent from the field, 40 percent from three and 87 percent from the line while getting to it 6.5 times per game.

All-Star rookies vs. sophomores game may see changes
There have been rumblings that this year’s Rookie-Sophomore game won’t pit the two draft classes against each other, but rather feature two teams with a combination of rookies and sophomores. We’re hearing that two TNT personalities – possibly Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal – will assemble the teams from the pool of selected players and coach the squads, as well.

Rockets' Kyle Lowry should be an NBA all-star
Lowry is having a monster season through 17 games and he has a rather mediocre Rockets team sitting pretty at 10-7, the eighth seed in the Western Conference. He is an attacker at heart but now that he's facilitating more, his all-around play rivals that of some of the elite point guards in the league.

Nuggets' Gallinari has all-star potential
"I think you could see Gallo playing in an All-Star Game someday," George Karl said. "You know, I coached Detlef Schrempf and I think Gallo has more intrigue in terms of Detlef because he's more of a playmaker than he is a scorer."

Paul Millsap’s NBA All-Star Conundrum
Millsap has emerged as the team’s best player. His numbers – 15.9 points and 8.4 rebounds – aren’t anything special. But he’s playing only 29 minutes a night, mostly because the Jazz have enough big men to outfit every Warrior team since 2005 with a pivot. Al Jefferson has slightly better numbers at first glance (18 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks a night), but he’s played more, taken more shots, missed WAY more shots and hasn’t been the one driving Utah in the past few games.

Iguodala could be on course to be all-star
Is Andre Iguodala on the way to becoming a first-time all-star? After he was named one of 20 finalists for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team, coach Doug Collins said that if the 10-3 Sixers keep winning, Iguodala should be an Eastern Conference all-star. In the NBA, successful teams tend to be rewarded with all-star berths. Iguodala is not among the top 10 conference forwards in the first fan balloting released last week. He’d almost surely have to be voted to the 12-man team by the conference’s coaches as a reserve.

All-Star first results in, TD in danger of snapping All-Star appearance streak
The 2012 NBA All-Star first ballot returns are in and not one of the San Antonio Spurs' "Big 3" are no where near the top of the list. One thing to keep an eye on is on Duncan. Should not be named to the West All-Star roster, the 13-time All-Star would snap his All-Star appearance streak. He has made the team since 2000. And seeing how his numbers are down this season, the chances are high TD will miss the annual event.

Eric Gordon and 10 NBA Players Who'll Be Surprise All-Stars
As a compressed NBA schedule takes its toll on veteran players, expect high turnover and new faces on this year’s All-Star rosters. A lockout-shortened season also skews the selection process toward early outcomes, meaning these fast starters will get a chance to run with the NBA’s elite at the main even in Orlando.

Utah Jazz: Al Jefferson may finally be in running for All-Star spot
During the first few years of his career, Jazz center Al Jefferson used to dream about it. Then the losses piled up. Losing seasons in Boston, lost years in Minnesota. Now, if the Jazz keep winning during January and Jefferson keeps producing, the eight-year veteran could finally be in the running for an All-Star spot.

Ryan Anderson Left Off NBA All-Star Ballot: A Fan’s Take
Through the first 10 days of the season, Anderson is also playing as well as any forward in the Eastern Conference. He is averaging 19.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and nearly 4 three-pointers per game. He is also shooting 48 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from three-point range and 94.4 percent from the free throw line. The success that the Magic has found this year (5-2 so far) is thanks in large part to the combination of Howard and Anderson splitting up defenses and taking advantage of shifts.

Orlando Mayor plans to ask the NBA for another All-Star Game in 2014 or 2015
Although city officials look forward to hosting the 2012 NBA All-Star Game if the tentative labor deal is ratified, they plan to ask the league for the city to host the game again in 2014 or 2015 (2013 will be in Houston). “We would certainly appreciate and welcome the opportunity to host the game in either 2014 or 2015 again, and I will certainly, along with the Magic, make that request. But we’re pretty excited about having ’12. Earlier this month, Dyer told Sentinel sports columnist Mike Bianchi that the league would have a “moral obligation” to give the city a second All-Star Game “since we wouldn’t be getting the All-Star Game in the fashion that it was promoted to us.”

Players reject deal, seriously jeopardizing 2012 NBA All-Star Game in Orlando
NBA players are shifting their ongoing labor dispute with the league's owners toward the courts — the courts with lawyers and judges, not the ones with coaches and referees. The move seriously threatens the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, which is scheduled to be played in late February at Orlando's Amway Center, and jeopardizes the 2011-12 season.

NBA Lockout News: Orlando's 2012 NBA All-Star Game would be saved -- if union accepts new offer
League officials met with executives from the National Basketball Players Association for 11 hours Thursday (Nov. 10) in Manhattan, and by the time the meeting had ended, NBA Commissioner David Stern had made a new proposal to the union’s president, Derek Fisher, and the union’s executive director, Billy Hunter. The contingency schedule that’s been drawn up by the NBA still calls for the 2012 All-Star Game to be played in downtown Orlando on Feb. 26.

Orlando loses plenty if 2012 All-Star Game is shelved
Unless the NBA owners and players get real cozy at the negotiating table real soon, there won't be an All-Star Game in Orlando next February. Which means, there goes an estimated $50 million-plus from Central Florida's economy and a decent chunk of change from the league's cash register.

2012 NBA All-Star Game at Amway Center in Orlando in jeopardy in extended lockout
NBA fans in Orlando have waited 20 years for the All-Star Game to return to the City Beautiful. But if the inevitable lockout starts to chew away at regular season games, that wait may be even longer. The league seemed to build some extra time for Orlando's All-Star Game in case of a lockout, when they scheduled it for February 26; that is six days later than any All-Star Game held in the 21st century.

I’ve always found NBA All-Star weekend (also known to most basketball addicts as having to go 5 days without seeing your team play), to be the most watchable (or least unwatchable) of the major sports. Spurs remain interested in hosting NBA All-Star Game
Spurs Sports & Entertainment President Rick Pych says the organization has shared with league officials its continued interest in hosting another NBA All-Star Game in San Antonio. But he says the only way it makes sense for the Alamo City to host the event a second time is if the game is staged the same place it was played in 1996 — in the Alamodome.

Rockets Want to Host 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend
“Since last All-Star Game in 2006, we’ve submitted to the league a proposal to host the All-Star Game again,” Rockets CEO Tad Brown said. “We’re under consideration for 2014. We’re hopeful, but the NBA has not made any determinations. There are a number of cities bidding for the same thing. We’re working with the city and the sports authority to try to get the game.”
