Danilo Gallinari, LaMarcus Aldridge Highlight Top 10 NBA Players With All-Star Bids in Jeopardy
Only 24 fortunate players get to participate in the NBA All-Star Game, and with the 10 starters for this year's game in Orlando likely set, the battle for reserve spots is likely to get testy. More than a few quality players will take the weekend off or watch the events on TV, just like the rest of us. Call them the first 10 out -- the 10 players who probably won't be named All-Stars, but are playing like All-Stars this season.

Anderson Varejao: 5 Reasons Cavaliers Center Deserves to Be an NBA All-Star
The 29-year-old, seven-year NBA veteran has never made the All-Star team
before. For the year he doesn't even average double digits in scoring. Those
who haven't watched his game recently would say he's only a flopper, and nothing
more. I'm here to say Anderson Varejao deserves to be an NBA All-Star, and here
are five reasons why.

Overlooked All-Stars
The All-Stars are coming. Who’s the most underrated, no chance at going to
Orlando but should have a shot, player in the league today?
http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2012/02/01/blogtable-overlooked-all-stars/
Do the Thunder have 3 All-Stars on their Roster this year?
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are Oklahoma City’s two best players.
They made All-Star teams and All-NBA teams last year. But the Thunder’s James
Harden is emerging this season as a possible third All-Star on the roster.
Harden is averaging 16.8 points per game, 3.3 assists per game and 4.1
rebounds per game this season. He’s shooting 48 percent from the field, 40
percent from three and 87 percent from the line while getting to it 6.5 times
per game.

All-Star rookies vs. sophomores game may see changes
There have been rumblings that this year’s Rookie-Sophomore game won’t pit the
two draft classes against each other, but rather feature two teams with a
combination of rookies and sophomores. We’re hearing that two TNT personalities
– possibly Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal – will assemble the teams from
the pool of selected players and coach the squads, as well.

Rockets'
Kyle Lowry should be an NBA all-star
Lowry is having a monster season through 17 games and he has a rather mediocre
Rockets team sitting pretty at 10-7, the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
He is an attacker at heart but now that he's facilitating more, his all-around
play rivals that of some of the elite point guards in the league.

Nuggets' Gallinari has all-star potential
"I think you could see Gallo playing in an All-Star
Game someday," George Karl said. "You know, I coached Detlef Schrempf and I
think Gallo has more intrigue in terms of Detlef because he's more of a
playmaker than he is a scorer."

Paul Millsap’s NBA All-Star Conundrum
Millsap has emerged as the team’s best player. His numbers – 15.9 points and 8.4
rebounds – aren’t anything special. But he’s playing only 29 minutes a night,
mostly because the Jazz have enough big men to outfit every Warrior team since
2005 with a pivot. Al Jefferson has slightly better numbers at first glance (18
points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks a night), but he’s played more, taken more
shots, missed WAY more shots and hasn’t been the one driving Utah in the past
few games.

Iguodala could be on course to be all-star
Is Andre Iguodala on the way to becoming a first-time all-star? After he was
named one of 20 finalists for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team, coach Doug Collins
said that if the 10-3 Sixers keep winning, Iguodala should be an Eastern
Conference all-star. In the NBA,
successful
teams tend to be rewarded with all-star berths. Iguodala is not among the
top 10 conference forwards in the first fan balloting released last week. He’d
almost surely have to be voted to the 12-man team by the conference’s coaches as
a reserve.

All-Star first results in, TD in danger of snapping All-Star appearance
streak
The 2012 NBA All-Star first ballot returns are in and not one of the San
Antonio Spurs' "Big 3" are no where near the top of the list. One thing to keep
an eye on is on Duncan. Should not be named to the West All-Star roster, the
13-time All-Star would snap his All-Star appearance streak. He has made the team
since 2000. And seeing how his numbers are down this season, the chances are
high TD will miss the annual event.

Eric Gordon and 10 NBA Players Who'll Be Surprise All-Stars
As a compressed NBA schedule takes its toll on veteran players, expect high
turnover and new faces on this year’s All-Star rosters. A lockout-shortened
season also skews the selection process toward early outcomes, meaning these
fast starters will get a chance to run with the NBA’s elite at the main even in
Orlando.

Utah Jazz: Al Jefferson may finally be in running for All-Star spot
During the first few years of his career, Jazz center Al Jefferson used to
dream about it. Then the losses piled up. Losing seasons in Boston, lost years
in Minnesota. Now, if the Jazz keep winning during January and Jefferson keeps
producing, the eight-year veteran could finally be in the running for an
All-Star spot.

10 NBA Players Making a Case for First All-Star Appearance
The 2012 NBA All-Star Ballot has been released, and while there are the usual
locks who will earn a selection, numerous candidates are making a case for a
first time appearance. While both All-Star teams tend to consist mostly of
repeatedly heralded players, a few surprising, yet deserving, first-timers are
bound to make the cut. Plenty of athletes have begun to prove themselves this
season, as they fight to earn their inclusion in the All-Star conversation.

Ryan Anderson Left Off NBA All-Star Ballot: A Fan’s Take
Through the first 10 days of the season, Anderson is also playing as well as any
forward in the Eastern Conference. He is averaging 19.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and
nearly 4 three-pointers per game. He is also shooting 48 percent from the field,
45.5 percent from three-point range and 94.4 percent from the free throw line.
The success that the Magic has found this year (5-2 so far) is thanks in large
part to the combination of Howard and Anderson splitting up defenses and taking
advantage of shifts.

Orlando Mayor plans to ask the NBA for another All-Star Game in 2014 or 2015
Although city officials look forward to hosting the 2012 NBA All-Star Game if
the tentative labor deal is ratified, they plan to ask the league for the city
to host the game again in 2014 or 2015 (2013 will be in Houston). “We would
certainly appreciate and welcome the opportunity to host the game in either 2014
or 2015 again, and I will certainly, along with the Magic, make that request.
But we’re pretty excited about having ’12. Earlier this month, Dyer told
Sentinel sports columnist Mike Bianchi that the league would have a “moral
obligation” to give the city a second All-Star Game “since we wouldn’t be
getting the All-Star Game in the fashion that it was promoted to us.”

Players reject deal, seriously jeopardizing 2012 NBA All-Star Game in Orlando
NBA players are shifting their ongoing labor dispute with the league's owners
toward the courts — the courts with lawyers and judges, not the ones with
coaches and referees. The move seriously threatens the 2012 NBA All-Star Game,
which is scheduled to be played in late February at Orlando's Amway Center, and
jeopardizes the 2011-12 season.

NBA Lockout News: Orlando's 2012 NBA All-Star Game would be saved -- if union

League officials met with executives from the National Basketball Players
Association for 11 hours Thursday (Nov. 10) in Manhattan, and by the time the
meeting had ended, NBA Commissioner David Stern had made a new proposal to the
union’s president, Derek Fisher, and the union’s executive director, Billy
Hunter. The contingency schedule that’s been drawn up by the NBA still calls for
the 2012 All-Star Game to be played in downtown Orlando on Feb. 26.

Unless the NBA owners and players get real cozy at the negotiating table real

NBA fans in Orlando have waited 20 years for the All-Star Game to return to the

The coach of the team with the best record in the East on Feb. 6 will guide the

essentially leaves it as a two-man race between Spoelstra and Celtics coach Doc

Orlando's 2012 All-Star Game could be canceled
The city of Orlando might miss its shot to host the 2012 NBA All-Star Game in
the new Amway Center. It would all depend, of course, on how long the work
stoppage goes on --- and owners apparently are determined to drastically change
the current CBA. A lockout in 1999 shortened
the season to 50 games and forced cancellation of the all-star game in
Philadelphia.

NBA All-Star Game reserves history. Any chance for Kevin Love and
Blake Griffin?
Every season there are some players making great stats in weak teams
(non-playoffs and/or under .500 teams) who have a very small chance to
make the All-Star teams, or at least that's the feeling I have. So, I was thinking, which kind of players have been selected
in the last 25 years? And the best I could do was to look at the history of
the players chosen as a reserves in the last 25 seasons (1985-2010).

Lebron discusses NBA Slam Dunk Contest
LeBron James wants to be part of the dunk contest at All-Star weekend. He's
just not sure it's a smart idea. One of the game's best dunkers, James
acknowledged Friday that he often considers committing to be part of the field,
then finds himself waffling.

25 First-Time Candidates Who Could Be In The 2011 NBA All-Star
Game
Every year when the All-Star Teams are announced, and a select group
of players will play in an exhibition game as the greatest players in
the world, there are a few new faces, people that have not been in this
position before, and players having the best years of their careers.

Tim Duncan Not an All-Star This Year? Don't Count Him Out
Duncan was told he could be named an All-Star by coaches, who choose
reserves by voting for a center, two forwards, two guards and two
players at any position. Coaches easily could slide Duncan over for
their center vote, although they also could do that with power forwards
Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas, Kevin Love of Minnesota, Blake Griffin of the
Clippers, LaMarcus Aldridge of Portland or Zach Randolph of Memphis.

Lakers' Lamar Odom covets a first All-Star game appearance
Odom, 31, is in his 12th season in the NBA and is playing some of the best
basketball of his career. He's averaging 16.2 points and 10 rebounds per game
and shooting 58.8%. In a Western Conference packed with All-Star-caliber
forwards, Odom was seventh at the position in the season's first All-Star
balloting released Thursday, with 134,594 votes.

NBA All-Star Ballots Need One Simple Reform: Lose The Positions
This isn't a terribly original idea, and there are other good reform
ideas circulating. But looking at the results and options in the center
categories make the current system almost too much to bear. Bring the
positional revolution to fan voting!

Bulls' Rose should be a lock for All-Star start
All that MVP chanting is nice, but like with the title, only one
player gets that award. It is better to take a shot at what comes next,
the biggest midseason honor in the NBA, starting the All-Star game. And
I think Derrick Rose is a lock.

Raymond Felton Beyond the Numbers: New York Knicks Guard Should Be an
All-Star
Part of being a good point guard is maximizing the talents and honing in on
the skills of your teammates, and Felton has been doing just that. While one
would argue he’s been Nash-esque while guiding Amar’e Stoudemire towards a MVP
trophy, Knicks Hall of Fame point guard Walt “Clyde” Frazier claims Felton is
playing…well, “Frazier-like.”

Dwight Howard Says He's 'Retired for Life' From Dunk Contest
"I don't want to do it,'' Howard, 25, said after the Magic practiced at the
Pepsi Center on Monday in preparation for Tuesday's game against Denver. "I want
to let other people have an opportunity to shine. I (have done) the dunk contest
too many times. I'm over with it.''

Are Kevin Love numbers enough to land him in All-Star Game?
Love leads the NBA at 15.3 rebounds per game, more than three better
than No. 2 Joakim Noah of Chicago. It's rare that a player on a
bad team makes the NBA All-Star Game. Coaches, who select the reserves,
are stubborn about rewarding team success over individual stats when
filling out their ballots.

Keep LeBron Out Web Site Aims to Keep James Out of All-Star Game
The dislike for LeBron is so strong that someone actually went out
of their way to create an anti-LeBron site. Not only are they telling
people not to vote for LeBron, they’re also encouraging All-Star Game
votes for Kevin Garnett or Amar’e Stoudemire instead.

Paul Millsap, probably the best player left out of the ballot
He's averaging 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds. He's racked up five
double-doubles. He pulverized Miami for a career-high 46 points last
week. His scoring rate checks in 19th in the league going into today.
Twenty-five of the top 26 scorers are on the ballot. Millsap is not.
Seventeen of the top 19 rebounders made our list. Millsap did not.

Angeles Economy
Of that, $60 million of the total revenue generated is expected to

spent on area hotels and lodging, transportation, food, beverages,
entertainment and shopping. Increased economic activity from local

NBA All-Star Weekend not going to Europe in the near future
There had been talk of holding the game in Europe, perhaps in London ahead of
the 2012 Olympics. Stern said that was “just talk,” and nothing more. “Some of
the players come up to me and say, ‘Let’s go to London.’ They don’t know how
difficult it is to mount something,” Stern said. “I think this game is staying
domestic for quite a few more years.”
