A 19-6 run in the third quarter was the key for the East.At halftime, both teams had scored 57 points, but the game finished East 104 - West 84. Boston player Dave Cowens was the MVP with great stats. In the other team, Nate Archibald, from the Kansas City-Omaha Kings was the best scorer with 17 points.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar decided not to travel to Chicago for his own
safety. Some days before the game 7 muslims were killed in a Washington
community center donated by Kareem.
